This province is enhanced by the diversity of the surrounding countries. Bound to the north by Paraguay and to the east by Brazil and Uruguay, Corrientes is a large plain extending from south to north.
Rivers are the main characteristic of this province, as Corrientes is lined by six water courses with countless interior channels. The northern half of the province is occupied by wetlands (with swamps and small lakes) among which the wetlands ‘Esteros del Iberá’ stand out; Iberá means ‘shining water’ in Guaraní language.
The rivers of this region run mostly towards the Paraná River. The main ones, from north to south are Empedrado, San Lorenzo, Santa Lucía, and Corrientes.
